Market Deeping
Situated on the southern edge of Lincolnshire, Market Deeping is a picturesque market town, rich in culture and history.
Studies suggest that this area was occupied as far back as the prehistoric period, and it is thought there will have been a settlement here from the Iron Age, through to the Roman period.
The area expanded considerably during the Medieval era, evidence of which is preserved in the current street plan - it was common for medieval towns to centre around a large marketplace.
Today, the majority of the stone buildings that you see in Market Deeping date back to the 17th century. The town still provides the perfect backdrop to a weekly market, an event which has been held in the town centre since at least 1220.
Market Deeping is particularly famed for its wide range of restaurants on offer and has two notable fish and chip shops: The Boundary, which won the East of England Fish and Chip Shop of the Year award in 2007, and Linford's which was one of seven runners-up in the National Fish and Chip Awards in 2012.
