Accessibility in Lincoln

If you’re planning a visit to Lincoln, rest assured that accessibility won’t hinder your opportunity to discover what the city has to offer.

Lincoln is a beautiful, historic city and we want to make sure that everyone has the chance to enjoy it. You will find accessible attractions, restaurants and accommodation across the city, as well as a number of accessibility services to help you get around. 
 

Accessible attractions

Most visitor attractions in Lincoln are either fully accessible, or have accessible facilities. Major attractions such as Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral, The Museum of Lincolnshire Life and the Lincoln Museum are all fully equipped with lifts, wheelchair ramps and hearing/visual aids. There are also specially trained staff who will be able to assist you with any access needs.

Due to the historic nature of the city, there are areas of certain attractions that aren’t fully accessible. If you need more information, each attraction can provide details on the accessibility of their facilities in the form of an Access Statement. If you can’t find one on their website – just ask! 
 

Accessible accommodation

Whether you want to stay in the Cathedral Quarter, or down in the city centre, there is an abundance of accessible accommodation in Lincoln, The DoubleTree by Hilton, the Holiday Inn and the Lincoln Hotel are all equipped with disabled parking, accessible rooms and restaurants. You will be just a stone’s throw from the city in any of these hotels, making exploring easy.

Outside of the city, places like Elms Farm Cottages and Healing Manor Hotel are working hard to make their properties as accessible as possible. With step-free access, disabled parking and fully equipped bathrooms, you can enjoy a completely comfortable stay.
 

Accessible toilets & changing places

There are accessible toilets in Lincoln city centre that are suitable for wheelchair users, but do not include a hoist or a bench:

Accessible Travel

It is important for visitors with accessibility needs to know that Lincoln's Steep Hill is not accessible. It is a steep, cobbled street which is unsuitable for wheelchair users or for those with mobility needs.

Lincoln has accessible bus services that can aid you in travelling around the city centre, and up to the Cathedral Quarter.

Lincoln Park & Ride is accessible with a low floor and space for a wheelchair. The service runs Monday – Saturday, and stops include Waitrose (Nettleham Road), Lincoln Cathedral, Broadgate, and Lincoln Central Bus Station. Return tickets are valid for the whole day. Accompanied children ride for free.

Lincoln's Walk and Ride bus departs every 20 minutes from Silver Street in the city centre. This handy bus stops at key locations uphill including the Cathedral, Bailgate, Castle Square and the Lawn. 

To travel up the hill, you can also catch the 354 Stagecoach bus from the Central Bus Station, which stops at Northgate, Newport Arch and Burton Road.
 

Dial-A-Ride

Dial-A-Ride provides powered scooters as well as powered and manual wheelchairs for daily loans. Sign up for an annual registration and you can enjoy year-round free hire. Mobility equipment can be hired on an ad hoc basis without registering at a fee.
