Walking in Lincoln

You will find plenty of opportunities for walking in Lincoln and Lincolnshire. As it is a compact city, Lincoln is best explored on foot, and there are designated walking trails in the city centre, as well as out in the countryside.

If you fancy a quick sightseeing stroll, you will find a variety of green spaces in Lincoln’s city centre. The Arboretum, Temple Gardens and Liquorice Park all offer a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the High Street, whilst the Dean’s Green and Dawber Gardens are perfect for a quiet wander.

If you’re keen to learn more about the history of the city, there are several walking tours in Lincoln. These guided walks will highlight key points of interest, with some great anecdotes thrown in along the way. If you prefer to explore at your own pace, there are also self-guided walking trails available – anecdotes optional.

Venture out of the city and you can follow in the footsteps of Romans. The Fossdyke Canal Path in Lincoln runs alongside the Fossdyke Navigation, a Roman built canal which connects the River Trent to Lincoln's High Bridge.

On the outskirts of the city, you’ll also find a number of larger parks and nature reserves, perfect for weekend wanders. Hartsholme Country Park, Boultham Park and Whisby Nature Park all have designated walking trails, but you are more than welcome to create your own journey!
