Winter in Lincoln
It may be tempting to stay cosied up inside, but winter is one of the best seasons to get out and explore Lincoln.
With the colder weather comes sparkling frosts, breathtaking sunrises and clear blue skies. Wrap up warm and you can enjoy a wonderful walk around the city; when the early morning mist shrouds the Cathedral, Lincoln looks like a fairytale!
During the long winter months, there’s nothing more refreshing than a good walk in the great outdoors. Green spaces like Hartsholme Park, Whisby Nature Park and Boultham Park provide the perfect backdrop, with towering trees and huge lakes. These parks look as pretty as a picture on a frosty day, and all have cafes if you need to warm up!
If you prefer to stay toasty inside, Lincoln’s attractions will offer a warm welcome. With the risk of inclement weather, winter is a great time to explore the city’s museums and galleries. Alongside their permanent exhibitions, these cultural hubs run a programme of events throughout the year, so there is always something new to see.
Come December, the city is transformed with the glow of twinkling lights; shop windows are adorned with sparkling decorations and the scent of roasting chestnuts fills the air. One of the most magical times to visit, Christmas in Lincoln is a delightfully Dickensian experience. Lined with historic architecture and characterful shops, the cobbled streets wouldn’t look out of place in a Christmas movie.
In the run up to the big day, you can enjoy a packed schedule of events, from pop-up markets to pantomime performances. The grounds of Lincoln Castle are adorned with lights, whilst Lincoln Cathedral hosts a programme of live festive music.
Around the county, heritage houses are transformed, with all the sights, sounds and smells of the season. Lavishly decorated with larger-than-life Christmas trees and stunning handcrafted displays, these stately homes make for the perfect festive day out.
