The Strait & Steep Hill

Once named Britain's Great Street, Steep Hill is perhaps one of Lincoln's greatest landmarks and is the avenue leading to uphill Lincoln and the Bailgate area.

Steep Hill has a plethora of independent shops, offering everything from pies to fudge, and wine to hot chocolate. There's also an array of independent tea rooms and pubs, meaning there's plenty of places to stop along the way and enjoy a refreshing drink, warming coffee and cake, or a light lunch. The quaint cobbled street is picturesque and has some fantastic views across Lincoln halfway up. It's definitely a photo hotspot, and is a must-visit while in Lincoln - although a rather 'steep' climb to the top.

Leading up to Steep Hill from the top of the high street is The Strait, which also offers independent shop and stops for food and drink. In this section, you'll find a nifty eco-friendly store offering weigh and pay service, as well as a cosy, traditional old sweet shop and an excuberant pub, The Strait and Narrow.
