Passing through mainly open countryside on the higher ground of the Trent Valley and western slopes of the Lincoln Edge, this pretty route takes you through the attractive villages of Messingham and Manton.

Highlights

Messingham Sand Quarry Nature Reserve

This reserve has been created by the excavation of sand, which has left a series of lagoons. The richness of wildlife reflects this diversity of habitat and there are more than 180 species of birds, butterflies, moths, bees and wasps residing here.

Twigmoor Woods

This attractive, rich woodland is home to a huge variety of fauna and flora. In early summer, there is a spectacular display of rhododendrons and large numbers of dragonfly that breed in the slightly acidic waters of the Twigmoor Lakes.
