The city packs six festivals into the month covering everything from science to heavy metal.

The Lincoln Festival of History entertained the crowds over the early May Bank Holiday and the city was buzzing again over the second weekend in the month for two very important sporting events. The first was open top bus tour of the newly crowned champions of League Division One, Lincoln City FC on the Saturday – if you fancy taking your own ride on an open top bus and learning about 2000 years of history see HERE for more information.

The second was the city’s own festival of cycling across May 9-10 with the Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive on the Saturday followed on the Sunday by the 70th edition of the country’s oldest cycling road race, the Lincoln Grand Prix - find out more HERE.

There’s still four more festivals to come…

From sport to more cerebral pursuits as the work of academics at the University of Lincoln takes centre stage during the national festival of learning, Pint of Science, from May 18-21, designed to bring research out of science labs and lecture rooms into public-friendly places.

The Pessimist, The Realist and Dough Loco in Lincoln will be hosting academics from the university who will cover a range of subjects from how we perceive the world to digital love, see HERE for more information.

The Wonderground Festival is a chance to support Lincoln’s underground arts scene from May 21-27 through a series of performances, workshops, crafts and other activities. These will include a weekend of music in City Square on May 22-23.

The events will celebrate those already contributing to the city’s arts scene, many of whom make their living through other work – see HERE.

Only here for the beer? We really don’t mind as the 44th Lincoln Beer Festival will keep lovers of ale, cider and perry happy from Thursday to Saturday, May 21-23 at Southside.

Organised by the Lincoln branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, the event attracts around 2,000 people and celebrates the revival of British brewing and the diversity of the beers produced across the country with a focus on local breweries – see HERE.

If rock is your thing, you can answer the Call of the Wild being held at Lincolnshire Showground from Thursday - Sunday, May 28 - 31.

Celebrating its sixth anniversary this year, Call of the Wild Festival will feature over 40 acts over the four days and is very much a family event with attractions for youngsters including a giant bouncy castle and inflatable assault course.

For the adults a mechanical rodeo bull will be making its festival debut this year – see HERE for information.

If you think this is an impressive event line-up you should see what we’ve got coming up in June!
