1. Mouse House Cheese Shop

34 Steep Hill

Although Lincolnshire may be most famous for its sausages, it is also home to a number of fantastic cheesemongers. If you’re keen to sample some of the local produce, The Mouse House Cheese Shop is a must-visit. Situated in the historic Bailgate area, this family-run company offers an excellent selection of locally-made artisan cheeses. Not only will you find an expansive range of fascinating flavours, you can also pick up products to enjoy alongside your cheese - including the iconic Lincolnshire plum bread.

 

2. Follie

83 Bailgate

If you’re on the lookout for home accessories, Follie is a haven. Opened in 2004 by local businesswoman, Josie Rossington, this beautiful shop is piled high with unique treasures and trinkets. A one-stop shop for beautiful Lincolnshire-designed gifts, it’s impossible to walk past Follie’s creative window displays without stopping for a nosy. Once inside, you will discover a great variety of quirky homeware, colourful candles and one-off vintage pieces.

3. Harding House Gallery

50 Steep Hill

Lincoln is home to a large number of creative artists and makers. One of the best places to check out some of the local artwork is the Harding House Gallery. Situated within a beautiful 16th century building, this independent gallery is run by a diverse group of local artists. The gallery stocks original artwork from the Harding House members, as well as contemporary pieces from around 40 different UK artists. Not only is this a great place to pick up something unique, every purchase helps to support and promote the local art scene.

 

4. Steep Hill Wines

25 Steep Hill

Located in the historic Cathedral Quarter, Steep Hill Wines has been in Lincoln for over 30 years. This family-run shop stocks a huge variety of different products, ranging from artisan spirits to international wines. The team here like to source a lot of their stock from small producers, so if you’re looking to try something a little different, this is the place for you. As well as unique international options, the shop also offers a great range of locally made wines, spirits and beers. Don’t worry if you don’t know your Chardonnay from your Cabernet, the staff here are experts in their field!

5. Agatha

262 High Street

Established in 1996, Agatha is one of the largest luxury boutiques in Lincolnshire. Run by local husband and wife team, Roberta and Carl Jacklin, the shop was once voted one of Britain’s best boutiques by British Vogue. Agatha stocks a selection of clothing, footwear and accessories, working with both established brands and new designers. Their handpicked collections feature a mix of classic and contemporary pieces, catering for women of all generations. If you need styling tips, the shop’s knowledgeable team are great at offering honest advice and ideas.

 

6. Object & Line

2 Gordon Street

Situated in the heart of the Bailgate, Object & Line boasts a carefully curated selection of toys, stationary, cards and homeware. Packed with inspirational present ideas, Object & Line stocks some amazingly eclectic items that you just won’t find on the high street. Owners Jill and Barry Hepton are passionate about finding contemporary brands with high design values, sourcing their stock from small companies across the world.

7. The Shambles Antique Centre

4 Westgate

Situated in the Cathedral Quarter, The Shambles definitely lives up to its name - in the best way possible. Stacked with furniture, jewellery and home accessories, this fascinating shop is an Aladdin’s cave of antiques and vintage wares. The shop has been established for over 20 years, exhibiting goods from seven experienced dealers. Spread over two floors, you can easily spend hours here, sifting through cabinets and uncovering collectables. If you’ve got the time to explore, it is definitely worth it - you never know what you will discover!

 

8. Goodies

5 The Strait

Whether you’re a tourist or a Lincoln local, Goodies is always worth a visit. Tucked away at the bottom of Steep Hill, this traditional sweet shop was first opened in 1998. Hidden between historic buildings and overshadowed by the cathedral, you could easily walk past this tiny shop. Even if you don’t spot it at first, the alluring smell of sweets will definitely catch your attention! Goodies is jam-packed with traditional confectionery, guaranteed to evoke childhood memories and get your taste buds tingling.

9. Back To Mono

26 Guildhall Street

Situated in the heart of the city, Back to Mono is Lincoln’s only independent record shop. A must-visit for music fans, the shop stocks an impressive collection of new and used vinyl, as well as clothing, collectables and posters. Unlike some record shops, there is nothing intimidating about Back To Mono. The friendly owner, Jim Penistan, will be more than happy to share his extensive knowledge of all things music as you rifle through the records. Local legend Jim has been running record shops in Lincoln since 1991, so it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two!

 

10. Lindum Books

4 Bailgate

It may be easy to order books online, but there is definitely still something magical about discovering a good independent bookshop. Just a stone’s throw from the Cathedral, Lindum Books will definitely spark your imagination and reignite your passion for reading. Divided into four cosy rooms, the shop stocks a carefully curated selection of classic titles, new releases and even local literature. If you’re not sure what to choose, the welcoming staff here will be more than happy to chat books and offer personal recommendations - a luxury service you definitely don’t get online.
