Owned and managed by Lincoln College, The Old Bakery is a not-for-profit restaurant that helps give college students the vital experience they need before heading into the workplace, under the guidance of passionate chef Phil Cooke. A dinner here is more than just a delicious meal, it is also an investment into young talent and the local community.
Specialising in modern European cuisine, the restaurant use locally sourced, seasonal produce for all of their dishes. On the menu, you will find a great selection of innovative dishes, alongside an extensive wine list.
If you like a restaurant with plenty of character, The Old Bakery is the perfect choice. The building used to house a Victorian bakery, and it’s been lovingly restored to highlight some of the original features. Exposed brick walls and rustic wooden beams are now complemented by modern furnishings, creating a smart, warm space.
2. The Jews House
Situated in one of the oldest buildings in Lincoln, The Jews House is famed for its remarkable food, and exceptional service.
More of a dining experience, rather than just a meal, The Jews House offer two set tasting menus - one features four courses, and one has six. Flavour is a big focus here, and you will find some very interesting combinations on the menu.
To create his delectable dishes, Head Chef Gavin Aitkenhead takes inspiration from across the globe, but uses ingredients sourced close to home. He is passionate about showcasing Lincolnshire produce, working closely with local suppliers to reduce food miles.
To complete your fine dining experience, you also have the option to pair your meal with a carefully curated wine flight. Unique to Lincoln, The Jews House use the Coravin system for their wine. This innovative technique allows them to access wine from a bottle, without pulling the cork. As this keeps the wine fresh, you will have the chance to experience a glass of premium wine, without having to splash out on the whole bottle.
3. No.THIRTY8
Just a stone’s throw from Lincoln’s historic Bailgate, No.THIRTY8 is part of the Tower Hotel. If you love to Instagram your dining experiences, noTHIRTY8 is definitely the place for you. Dressed to impress, the restaurant itself is beautiful; vibrant fabrics are paired with vintage furniture, eclectic crockery and soft lighting to create a lovely, warm and welcoming space. Every corner of this restaurant is insta-worthy, and that’s even before the food comes out.
This stylish restaurant offers a selection of fine dining dishes, all of which showcase locally sourced produce. To ensure only the freshest ingredients are used, the menus here are changed seasonally, meaning you get to enjoy an exciting assortment of Lincolnshire produce throughout the year.
The menu here expertly combines classic British fare with more innovative flavours, so you can expect to see your favourite dishes like never before! Although it is only available seasonally, the Beef Wellington here is an absolute winning dish, as are the pan seared scallops.
After dinner, you can always head into the cosy hotel bar for a night cap. The Tower offer an excellent selection of cocktails, alongside a variety of wines, beers and spirits - many of which are locally produced. You can pull up a pew (quite literally, there are pews here), and settle in for the evening.
4. Reform Restaurant
Part of the Castle Hotel, Reform Restaurant is just a stone’s throw from Lincoln’s historic Bailgate area. Despite being located inside a former Victorian Schoolhouse, this award-winning restaurant doesn’t follow the rules.
Innovation sits at the heart of every menu here, and Reform’s passionate team are keen to push boundaries with their creative dishes. Don’t worry if you prefer to keep it classic, steak is always a staple on the evening menu - and it is always cooked to perfection. Locally sourced produce is used wherever possible, and dishes are updated seasonally to showcase Lincolnshire’s finest meat, fish and veg.
If you fancy a tipple with your meal, Reform has an extensive wine list, specifically curated to complement the food. You can also always grab a drink in the hotel bar before your meal, or stick around for a nightcap afterwards.

5. Antlers Restaurant
Part of the White Hart Hotel, Antlers is an elegant and sophisticated restaurant in the heart of Lincoln’s Cathedral Quarter. Opened in December 2023, Antlers is already tipped to be one of the jewels in Lincoln’s culinary crown.
Head Chef, Chris Punter, creates menus inspired by local growers, artisan producers and the finest seasonal produce that Lincolnshire has to offer.
