Autumn is an exciting time for live music fans. It marks the end of the summer festival season when bands move on to playing indoors.
The sound production is tighter and the audience no longer has to battle the elements and face a cold night under canvas after the gig.
Autumn also sees the return of the students to Lincoln, eager to explore the nightlife of their new homes.
The Engine Shed at the University of Lincoln kick starts the season with Don Broco (pictured) on September 28. The rock band, formed in Nottingham, finished their world tour this year at Finsbury Park, supporting Biffy Clyro. Tickets have already sold out, but more may become available so it’s worth joining the waiting list on Gigantic.
The Drill hosts Ferocious Dog (below) on October 8, which will be the last chance to see the energetic folk-punk outfit, ‘tear it up one last time,’ as they finally give up touring. Funk and soul lovers will be excited to see the return of the Craig Charles House Party at the same venue on September 18.
Southside keeps the south of the city alive with regular offerings of live music. Life, the alternative indie band from Hull, take the stage on October 2. It’s great to see this venue booking acts from the circuit, which also takes in such legendary places as The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.
Finally, the smaller venues continue to work hard for the local band scene. The Jolly Brewer launches The Lincoln Folk Festival this weekend, September 19-20 and The Joiners Arms features psychedelic rock from Gannets on October 10. Komodo hosts weekly Live Fridays, including Spanish musicians Undershaw on October 2 and groove rock from Kings & Bears on November 20.
