The Sixteen choir and orchestra performs one of the cornerstones of the classical repertoire at Lincoln Cathedral, Monteverdi's monumental Vespers of 1610, famed for its thrilling rhythms, grand choruses and beautiful solo movements.

Conductor Harry Christophers says "the Vespers is one of the most significant collections of sacred music ever written. We will follow Monteverdi's dictumrecitar cantando - speak through singing - to maximum effect, bringing this glorious work to life in the wonderful acoustics of one of the UK's finest cathedrals".

The Sixteen are delighted that choristers from many of the cathedrals on the tour will have the opportunity to join The Sixteen on stage to perform the ‘Sonata sopra Sancta Maria’ section of the Vespers.

Soloists:

  • Katy Hill, Charlotte Mobbs - soprano;
  • Jeremy Budd, Mark Dobell - tenor;
  • Ben Davies, Eamonn Dougan - bass.
