A celebration of all things Japanese at venues across Lincoln, including board games, Ikebana flower arranging, origami, Manga workshops, and live performances.

The highly anticipated annual Lincoln Japan Festival is back for its 6th year with eight jam-packed days of workshops and events for all ages. There are a variety of events to suit any budget, including free events and exhibitions, and a drop-in Japanese board games day.

Specialised Japanese practitioners from all over the UK will be sharing their creative skills and culture with locals in engaging, insightful ways. Attendees will have the chance to learn traditional Japanese practises such as origami, calligraphy, Ikebana flower arranging and sushi-making and leave with their very own hand-made item, or delicious lunch!

Be among the first to join artist Tasneem Kausar’s Manga drawing workshops which are new for 2019; a must for any aspiring comic book artists.

The ever popular traditional Japanese tea ceremony returns with additional dates. Buddha Maitreya of Pureland Japanese Garden in Newark invites spectators to step into a tranquil environment and learn about the ceremony’s history and traditions, before sampling traditional antioxidant-rich Matcha tea.

Family-friendly theatre company, A Thousand Cranes, will be performing their hugely successful show, Tales from Old Japan. Featuring inventive storytelling, puppetry and music, this is a perfect event to entertain young children while opening their eyes to Japanese culture.

The festival has grown from a small-scale film festival into a renowned Japanese arts and culture festival in the heart of Lincolnshire. Lincoln based non-profit Blueprint: Film Foundation saw the growing demand for an affordable and accessible cultural activity within the city and have strived to bring the much loved festival back to the city each year.

The full programme is available on the Lincoln Japan Festival website.

This project is supported by Arts Council England, Awards for All, The Japan Society, Lincoln BIG, The Sasakawa Foundation and Visit Lincoln.
