A festival of exciting cycling events, including a Sportive and the Men's and Women's Lincoln Grand Prix.

The Lincoln Grand Prix celebrates its 64th year as elite women and men race across historic Lincoln. The exciting races are complemented by a Sportive the day before which follows some of the elite course.

The the steep hills of Lincoln's cobbled Cathedral Quarter offer a popular, exciting and tough route for the riders and spectators.

Saturday 11th May

  • Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive, from Yarborough Leisure Centre, from 8am
Take on part of the elite race circuit, perfect for amateur cyclists who want to improve their skills and fitness. After a long ride in the tough hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds, tackle the closed road cobbled climb of Michaelgate before finishing in Castle Square at the bottom of the imposing Lincoln Cathedral. Choose from 33, 64, 80, or 100 mile courses to take part in this fully organised event with electronic timing, feed stations, medical support, and even photography.
Details and booking available on the ITP Events website.

Sunday 12th May

  • Lincoln Grand Prix, starting on Castle Hill
The Lincoln Grand Prix is the race for elite male and female riders and is Britain’s oldest remaining classic one-day cycle race. Some of the UK's top riders will take part in both races which start and finish on the historic Castle Hill.

Here are some of the best places to watch the Lincoln Grand Prix and Sportive races:

Castle Hill

The square between Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral is the unique finish line of the Lincoln Grand Prix Course following the gruelling Michaelgate climb.

Burton Village

The descent into the village of Burton, north of the city, is a hair raiser as the racers fly down trying not to let anyone break away. Take a walk to the village to see the riders at flat out speed.

Saxilby Road

Saxilby Road, west of the city, is the place to see the 'Tour de France' look as the big peleton race by. This is the perfect place for getting some classic cycle race photos.

Michaelgate

Get close and personal with the action on the tough one-in-six Michaelgate climb. The racers often use the smoother guttering on the side of the road so don't get too close...

Long Leys Road

This road in the west of the city is the point of no return when lone breakaways must try to keep clear of the chasing pack up the hill.

Bailgate

Bailgate is full of delightful pubs, restaurants, and cafes perfect to keep you refreshed on race day. And there are so many spots in the area to get a great view of the racers cycling through the historic quarter.

Look out for the race as it comes through the Roman Newport Arch - a great photo opportunity.
