Celebrate Holy Week and Easter at services in one of the finest cathedrals in Europe.

Lincoln Cathedral is the mother church of the Lincoln Diocese, and dominates the skyline of the city of Lincoln. What better place to celebrate and experience Holy Week and Easter?

A series of services and events will take place over Holy Week and Easter:

Saturday 6th April

A performance of the St John Passion, written in 1724: performed by the Lincoln Cathedral Choir, the first of Bach's two surviving Passions.

Orchestration will be played on authentic period instruments by Northern Baroque and conducted by Aric Prentice. The Evangelist will be Guy Withers and Christus will be Jacob Phillips.

The performance begins at 6:30pm. Tickets from £10 are available on Eventbrite.

Sunday 14th April - Palm Sunday

Remembering the moment in Jesus’ life where he entered the holy city, Jerusalem. Crowds greeted Jesus like a king, shouting praise and waving branches from palm trees.

This is echoed with songs of praise, waving palm branches and a procession from the Castle to the Cathedral and up through the Nave to the Choir.

  • 10:30am: Procession and Sung Eucharist
  • 3:45pm: Choral Evensong

Thursday 18th April - Maundy Thursday

Commemorating the Maundy and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles as described in the Canonical gospels.

  • 7:30pm: Eucarist of the Last Supper and Watch of the Passion

Friday 19th April - Good Friday

Commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The Preacher is Canon Professor Vernon White, Visiting Professor in Theology at King's College London.

  • 9:30am: Liturgy of the Cross
    12pm: Three Hours' Devotion

Saturday 20th April - Easter Eve

  • 8pm: The Easter Vigil with baptism and confirmation

Sunday 21st April - Easter Day

Easter Day is the most important day of the Church’s year, as we celebrate that Jesus is alive! It is celebrated with incense, white and gold robes and wonderful music.

  • 8am: Holy Communion
  • 10:30am: Sung Eucharist
  • 12:30pm: Holy Communion
  • 3:45pm: Festal Evensong.
