New AR App Released for Lincoln Cathedral

A ground-breaking new AR experience - consisting of an app and videos - will transport you back in time to unveil the hidden lives of some of history’s most fascinating characters at Lincoln Cathedral.

Lincoln is one of twelve of England’s historic cities which have collaborated to develop the new augmented reality (AR) product that is set to bring heritage to life.

The app uses cutting-edge technology to give the historical moments a fresh perspective and make history’s fascinating characters come to life giving you a chance to experience Lincoln Cathedral in a different way.

For 249 years, Lincoln Cathedral was the tallest building on Earth, and it remains a towering example of English heritage to this day. The app will enable you to explore the many hidden secrets of this stunning structure and set out on a marvellous voyage from skyscrapers to seabeds.

Guided by Lincolnshire hero Joseph Banks, you will learn about Banks’ favourite view in the Cathedral, hear the legend of the famous Lincoln Imp, explore England’s most beautiful room, and be transported up into the high rafters of the Cathedral usually only accessible on Roof Tours.

Not only does the app bring the Cathedral’s history to life in a new and innovative way, but it gives access to areas often off limits or inaccessible for some visitors.

The app ‘England’s Historic Cities’ is available to download for free in Google Play and on the App Store or from the Heritage Cities website.
