New Ale Celebrates Royal Air Force Centenary in 2018

A new Lincolnshire ale has been launched to mark the centenary of the Royal Air Force and the county’s connection to the RAF past, present and future.

‘Centennial Flight’ is being brewed by Lincolnshire Brewing Company in partnership with Visit Lincoln, the organisation which promotes tourism across Lincolnshire.

Karl Brown, Head Brewer and Co-Director of Lincolnshire Brewing Company, said: “As a Lincolnshire company we wanted to mark the 100th anniversary of the RAF. Visit Lincoln and Lincoln BIG have organised an exciting programme of events which will bring many visitors and residents into the city.

“Our customers love commemorative ales and this is the second one we have done in partnership with Visit Lincoln. It’s a pale ale brewed with Centennial hops which are renowned for their citrus and floral aroma. The ale also includes dry hopped with Pilot, which offers a spicy marmalade note.

“As a partner of Visit Lincoln we wanted to support its work raising the profile of Lincoln and the county during 2018, and offer something different to the national celebrations of RAF100 this year. Visitors to the shop like taking the commemorative ales home to remind them of their time in Lincoln, whilst residents enjoy trying the new brews and flavours.”

Joel Murray, digital marketing coordinator at Visit Lincoln worked with Karl and his team on the Centennial Flight ale. “The ‘RAF Lincolnshire’ toolkit badge looks great on the label”, he said. “We created the free toolkit for businesses to use in their own marketing and by using the RAF Lincolnshire badge they are helping us reach even more people and signpost them back to VisitLincoln.com/raf.

“We’re going to be using Centennial Flight in our marketing, we’re taking it to trade events and will include it in press packs that we give travel journalists who come on press visits. Quality food and drink plays such an important role in the wider tourism experience, and Lincolnshire Brewing Company’s commemorative ale is an effective way of including it in our tourism marketing this year.”

The beer is available to buy from retailers such as The Crafty Bottle where it will be sold in 500ml bottles for £3.00 as well as in various pubs and bars across Lincoln and also on all local RAF Camps.
