8 Fashion Trends to Discover in Lincoln During Summer 2017

The Lincoln Fashion Week team took sponsors, retailers and bloggers to the 2017 London Fashion Week Festival. We asked Marketing student Leanne Broadhead to pick out the top trends seen on the catwalk and find where you can buy them on the High Street.

After visiting the London Fashion Week festival in February, we discovered many of the season’s newest trends. With these now heading onto our high street for summer 2017 we wanted to round up the trends you’ll find on Lincoln High Street.

1. Rock the Ruffles

Channel your feminine side with ruffles this season, from dresses to cold shoulder blouses, this trend is one of the most versatile of the season.

My favourite way to wear this trend is by pairing a cold shoulder ruffled blouse with a pair of white denim jeans, showing off a tan whilst also remaining cool and casual. With all out high street stores showing ruffles this season, there is something for all styles and budgets.

2. Make a statement

Statement jewellery, bags and shoes are ideal for those who want to include this seasons trends in their summer wardrobe, in a failsafe way.

Ankle tie shoes are everywhere this season, effortlessly adding detail to any outfit and elongating our bronzed legs. This detail can be seen across the high street stores through sandals, espadrilles and heels to suit all tastes and occasions.

3. Luscious Lace

Show of your fresh holiday tan (or one from a bottle) with lace detailing. This material is perfect for encompassing the sheer trend also with many designs combining the two.

Stores are showing intricate lace designs to form whole pieces as well as giving a nod to the trend through lace backing of shirts and overlays on swimwear.

4. A taste of the tropics

Tropical prints can be seen across the stores, with vibrant colours and eye catching patterns. Why not pair one of Roman Originals skirts with a simple white blouse to dress up a casual attire.

Marks and Spencer have also been inspired by this trend with beautiful blouses and dresses that make us crave a summer’s barbeque. Their tropical print inspired active wear is ideal for those who want to bring this trend into their workout.

5. The shirt reinvented

There is nothing more modern than trends that enhance classic pieces. This is why I love the deconstructed shirt trend. Frills, ruffles and asymmetrical hemlines make up this trend, allowing you to wear a classic shirt with an eye catching finish.

6. Exquisite Embroidery

It’s impossible to not see the embroidery trend when you hit the high street as it has flooded all of our stores. From New Look to Debenhams the embroidered offering can be seen everywhere you go.

Our favourite way to wear is through embroidered denim, here you can add a subtle hint of the trend to your look without needing to purchase a whole new wardrobe. Simply paid with your favourite white tee or blouse and you look is complete.

7. Head back to the 80s

It’s safe to say we are more than excited about the revival of the 80s fashion, combining bright fuchsias and florescent limes with metallic fabrics and asymmetric cuts.

Head to Ego and St Barnabas Hospice Shops to get some true 80s pieces or shop the high street for their take on the 80s trend. Not brave enough to bring back your metallic jumpsuit? Instead add hints of the trend a lime shoe or a metallic skirt, whilst keeping the rest of the outfit simple.

8. A play on words

Slogan tees have been seen across New York, London and Paris fashion week from some of the most celebrated designers. The high street brands have now followed suit on this trend allowing us to shop this trend without breaking the bank.

Topshop are leading the way with the high street offerings of this trend, giving us statement slogan prints as well as delicate slogan details on casual wear. Wear this trend formal or relaxed by tucking tops and jumpers into smarter skirts or trousers.

To discover more trends hot off the catwalks and in our high street stores, make sure you don't miss out on Lincoln Fashion Week, from 28th April to 5th May 2017, throughout Lincoln City Centre.
