Did you know: ale was so important in thirteenth century England that in 1215 it was cited in one of the most significant legal documents in history: Magna Carta.
Article 35 of Magna Carta states: “‘Let there be throughout our kingdom a single measure for wine and a single measure for ale and a single measure for corn.” The date of 'Beer Day Britain' is 15th June - the same date on which Magna Carta was sealed.
One of only four surviving original copies of Magna Carta is on display in Lincoln Castle.
All businesses included serve real ale or craft beer, are open from 2pm, and are members of Lincoln BIG or the Visit Lincoln Partnership.
Lincoln operates a Challenge 25 policy: if you are lucky enough to look under 25 you will be asked to prove that you are over 18 when you buy alcohol. Lincoln BIG coordinates the Lincoln Pubwatch which promotes a safe, secure drinking environment in all licensed premises and helps reduce alcohol related crime.
Please drink responsibly.
