The quintessentially English ritual of Afternoon Tea dates back to the Victorian era, when English ladies of the 1840s would enjoy a private social meal to steam hunger until their evening meal.

It was Queen Victoria who gave the indulgent meal its popularity, turning it into a huge formal reception event, aspired to by the English population. Today it is enjoyed on special occasions with friends and family across the country.

Afternoon Tea is a shared meal composed of sandwiches (usually cut delicately into 'fingers'), scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet pastries and cakes. And of course, English tea (or coffee!).
